Vào một buổi tối trăng thanh gió mát, bầu trời đầy sao sáng. Đom đóm bay từ bụi tre ngà ra ruộng lúa. Cây đèn của đom đóm cứ chớp lên trong đêm, trông đẹp như ngôi sao hôm đang nhấp nháy.

Đom đóm sà xuống chân ruộng bắt mấy con Rầy nâu hại lúa để ăn lót dạ. Ruộng lúa rì rào, đung đưa những tàu lá xanh mướt, cảm ơn bạn Đom đóm chăm chỉ. Đóm đóm vô cùng vui vẻ và tiếp tục cần mẫn tìm từ ruộng lúa này sang ruộng lúa khác.

Lúc nghỉ ngơi, Đom đóm nhìn lên thì thấy bạn giọt sương đang đung đưa trên lá. Đom đóm thầm nghĩ: “Ôi bạn giọt sương thật là xinh đẹp!”. Rồi Đom đóm cất cánh bay quanh Giọt sương. Lạ thật, càng đến gần, Đom đóm lại càng thấy Giọt sương đẹp hơn, liền trầm trồ khen ngợi:

-       Chào bạn Giọt sương, trông bạn lung linh tỏa sáng, giống như một viên ngọc vậy!

Giọt sương dịu dàng nói:

-Bạn Đom đóm ơi, mình sáng đẹp thế này là vì mình phản chiếu ánh sáng từ các ngôi sao trên bầu trời. Có khi còn mờ hơn ánh sáng cây đèn của bạn ấy. Mình nghĩ bạn mới là người đẹp nhất, sáng nhất. Vì bạn sáng lên được từ chính bản thân mình. Bạn thật đáng tự hào!

Đom đóm nói:

-       Ôi bạn Giọt sương khiêm tốn quá! Nhưng mình xin cảm ơn bạn về những lời tốt đẹp bạn đã dành cho mình. Thôi chào bạn nhé! Mình đi bắt bọn Rầy nâu hại lúa đây.

Đom đóm bay đi, Giọt sương còn nói với theo, giọng đầy khích lệ:

-       Chúc bạn làm tròn nhiệm vụ của mình, để đồng ruộng thêm tươi tốt nhé!

FIREFLY AND DEW DROPS

One cool, moonlit evening, the sky was full of bright stars. Fireflies flew from the bamboo bushes to the rice fields. The firefly's lantern kept flashing in the night, looking as beautiful as a twinkling evening star.

Fireflies swooped down to the foot of the rice field to catch some brown planthoppers to eat. The rice fields rustled, their green leaves swaying, thanking the hard-working firefly. The firefly was extremely happy and continued to diligently search from one rice field to another.

While resting, the firefly looked up and saw the dewdrop swaying on the leaves. The firefly thought to itself: "Oh, the dewdrop is so beautiful!" Then the firefly took off and flew around the dewdrop. Strangely, the closer the Firefly got, the more beautiful the Dewdrop seemed to be, and he immediately admired:

- Hello Dewdrop, you look so radiant, like a gem!

The Dewdrop gently said:

- Dear Firefly, I am this bright and beautiful because I reflect the light from the stars in the sky. Sometimes it is even dimmer than the light of your lamp. I think you are the most beautiful and brightest. Because you shine from yourself. You are so proud!

The Firefly said:

- Oh Dewdrop, you are so modest! But I thank you for the kind words you have given me. Bye! I am going to catch the brown planthoppers that are harmful to the rice.

The Firefly flew away, and the Dewdrop said to him in an encouraging voice:

- I hope you fulfill your duty, so that the fields will be more prosperous!

 II.           Grammar :

1.    Comparative sentence structures using "hơn" ( more ) and "nhất" ( the best).

These comparative structures using "hơn" ( more ) and "nhất" ( the best) are usually accompanied by an adjective. They are used to compare the characteristics and qualities of things, events, etc…

Cấu trúc: Adj + hơn

xinh	hơn
đẹp
xấu
tốt
bền
…

For example:

In the story, the humble dewdrop wants to praise the light of the firefly, so it says:

-  .......có khi còn mờ hơn ánh sáng cây đèn của bạn ấy. ( ...sometimes it's even dimmer than the light of your lamp)

Another examples: In the song about Uncle Ho, there are some comparative phrases: 

« Tôi hát ngàn lời ca Bao la hơn những cánh đồng Mênh mông hơn mặt biển Đông Êm đềm hơn những dòng sông …   Tôi hát ngàn lời ca Nồng nàn hơn nắng ban mai Đẹp tình hơn cánh hoa mai Hùng thiêng hơn núi sông dài »

"I sing a thousand songs More vast than the fields More boundless than the East Sea More peaceful than the rivers…  I sing a thousand songs More passionate than the morning sun More beautiful than the apricot blossoms More majestic than the long mountains and rivers"

- Comparison of "nhất": The best

 For example:

In the story, the dewdrop says:

-       Bạn mới là người đẹp nhất, sáng nhất.  (You are the most beautiful, the brightest person ).

Another example:

- « Hồ Chí Minh đẹp nhất tên người ! » ( Ho Chi Minh, the most beautiful name! - Lyrics from a song about Uncle Ho)

2. Sentence structure: « …càng,…càng… » (the more…, the more…)

Describes two actions, two states, two parallel situations that occur together and are mutually supportive and complementary. When this part of the sentence occurs, the other part will also have similar activities or characteristics. Sometimes used to emphasize and increase the speaker's intention.

For example:

In the story Fireflies and Dewdrops:

Càng đến gần, Đom đóm lại càng thấy Giọt sương đẹp hơn . ( The closer the Fireflies get, the more beautiful the Dewdrops become.)

Other examples:

-       Càng gần đến cuối năm thì các mặt hàng bánh kẹo phục vụ tết càng phong phú hơn. ( The closer to the end of the year, the more abundant the confectionery products for Tet are.)

-       Càng tiến xa hơn về phía Bắc thì khí hậu lại càng lạnh giá hơn. (The further north you go, the colder the climate becomes.)
